Today we looked at branding and spoke about reverse thinking and related it to 4 soft drinks; Pepsi, Coca Cola, Tango and Irn-bru
19/10/21
We were told about our first assignment today. We have to create a social media page with the theme of 'lemon'. Due for Jan 11. The person with the most followers and likes wins. We need to post 1-3 times a week.
Ideas:
- lemons on dogs
- giving lemons to babies and getting their reaction
- ASMR - sounds, squeezes etc.
- throwing lemons on different surfaces
- edit Lemons as flowers on photoshop or vice versa
- Lemons on cats - can make multiple accounts so could link dogs and cats
I quite like the lemon on animals idea due to a lot of my clients that I work for have dogs/cats so I'm sure they won't mind me taking quirky photos of them with a lemon. I think this will get a large following with adding hashtags to my posts such as #cute and #dog. I can even create my own hashtag and create a community where people may want to send me pictures of their pets with lemons.
3/11/21
I posted my first pic of a lemon on a dogs head which was sent by my mum. The dog was one of her clients pets. Within a couple hours I got a few likes.
4/11/21
At work the dogs came back from their walk early and as I didn't have a lemon on me so I grabbed an object and used that and decided to photoshop it as a lemon later
5/11/21
I made my second post which was also sent by my mum from one of her work clients dogs
8/11/21
I added to my story that a new post will be coming soon (tomorrow) so that my followers know I am still active on the account. I currently have 15 followers and 2 posts.
26/11/21
I downloaded a free lemon image Photo by Angélica Echeverry on Unsplash and photoshopped it onto a picture i had of a dog from my work as I forgot to bring a lemon so I grabbed an object similar (a ball) and tried to blend the lemon on top of it.
30/11/21
I don't think I'm posting enough as my content is starting to get less likes. So I'm trying to be more active on it by liking other posts and posting on my story. I will go out to pets at home some point this week and see if any owners will allow me to take a picture of their dogs.
~JOAN OF ARC
For this project I want to make my poster have Joan of arcs symbol of the crown on the sword with 2 fleur de lis either side. for effect I want to put Joan on the sword on fire to resemble that she got burnt on the stake.
I downloaded a free image of a fleur de lis from pixabay.com. I photoshopped this by adding a gradient, stroke and shadows
I looked for some medieval type swords as Joan was from the 1400s. With this I created a texture for the handle and blade as the image was a silhouette.
I got a crown image from pixabay which I will put the French flag colours over.
I added a mask and gradient to the crown and turned down opacity
I looked for inspiration for my poster. I looked at Art deco artists such as Rene Lalique, Erté, and Joseph Cskay. I like how art deco is centered in the middle that stands out and is the main focus.
[1] Erté - Emerald Night (1992)
[1.1]Rene Lalique 'Dragonfly Woman' (1897)
[1.2] Joseph Csaky 'Head' (1913)
Then I looked into surrealism artists like Rene Magritte, Man Ray. Characteristics of surrealism include dream like scenes and images, and illogical juxtapositions. it is known to be an expression of the subconscious mind. (Study.com (2021))
[1.3] Man Ray - As You Like It (1948)
[1.4] Rene Magritte - La Decalcomanie (1966)
7/12/21
I got a Joan of arc image off pixabay
I turned this statue into a silhouette by using the paint bucket tool and turned it all black. at first I was going to keep the flag white but then I felt like it connoted surrendering so I kept it black
9/12/21
I managed to get one picture of a lemon and dog in pets at home today. Blake the greyhound. And then I rejected by one lady as she felt uncomfortable with her dogs picture being used online due to 'many people looking at him'. When posting on the Instagram I use a bunch of hashtags related to the post so it can be seen by accounts that don't follow me in hope that they will like the picture and then add my account.
I create a second poster for the Joan of arc project where she is in front of her judges.
Then later I found we have to make one image so I will not continue with the judges poster and focus on her symbol.
I looked at a YouTube video on how to make metallic effect in photoshop for the sword to make it look a bit more realistic.
[2] how to create a metallic text style effect in photoshop (2019)
I got a smoke png from cleanpng.com to add behind the fire sword.
I realised that I should make Joan's dress on fire too as it looks a bit simple and lazy.
I removed the flag and cut Joan in half and mirrored it so it looked like she has both arms behind her back as if she is tied to the sword to symbolize her being tied to the stake.
21/12/21
i used a useful YouTube video on how to add a glowing saint halo to go behind my Joan of arc.
[2.1] How to make an illuminating, religious icon (2013)
I removed the French flag colour off the crown as that wasn't the flag in the 1400s, it was actually 3 yellow fleur de lis on a blue background. So I made the crown metallic using the same video that I used for the sword to seem more rustic and more medieval
27/12/21
I made my Joan bigger and edited my fleur de lis so that they were bolder. I wanted to turn the top part of the fleur de lis into the pope hat as the top half has the shape, but when I felt this looked a bit out of place and didn't look right.
Then I made a spotlight in photoshop using transform>perspective and added a gaussian blur and turned down opacity.
I exported my brochure poster as a png to put it into photoshop to put it as an example for my powerpoint and then exported the illustrator project as a pdf to meet the requirements for the submission
notes:
DPI refers to the number of printed dots contained within one inch of an image printed by a printer. PPI refers to the number of pixels contained within one inch of an image displayed on a computer monitor
The difference between TIFF and JPG is that files that are in TIFF format are usually larger in size and allow its users to compress a file whereas JPG, on the other hand, is a lossy format and thus JPG formatted files and images allow you to have greater space storage.
28/12/21
When making the find out more and book now boxes it was hard to see with the white gradient behind it so I made it black.
for the Instagram post I stretched the logo to 50mm which is about 188pxl and the arts council to 36pxl
maybe change bus shelter logo to 9.84inches?
I need to update the Instagram post arts council logo to 70 pxls and resave it
For the web ad it is 500 x 1080pxl which is 132 x 285mm which is between the size of A5 and A4 which the ENO logo should be between 30-37mm (height) which is roughly 125px to go in-between
The bus shelter poster is 1219x1778mm so the ENO logo is for 6sheet which should be about 292.5mm which is 11.5inches with a 97.5mm margin
to get work out the margin, go onto view>ruler>show ruler
To make text bold you go type>make outline
I gave the flag/banner a margin of 18mm, made the logo about 360mm
the broacher logo has to be 37mm as it is A4 with 12mm margin
I took a screenshot of the ENO Instagram so I could photoshop my image onto for my presentation
I used an web ad banner example from AdEspresso (2020) which I photoshopped my ad over for my presentation.
6/1/22
I check my posters to make sure they are correct,
I edited my brochure due to the crown slightly touching the end of a sentence at the top left so I shrunk its size to make it more centered and clean
8/1/22
If I had more time I would have liked to make my poster more in the style of Erté. He was known as 'the father of art deco' for his influence on art and design in the 20th century. He made jewelry, opera sets, costumes and graphics arts. Art deco can be distinguished by textures, cultural melding, draped elegance, and vibrant patterns (Messy Nessy Chic (2020)). Along with a simple, clean shape, often with a streamlined look. It is known to create a captivating and nostalgic look and had influenced the design of buildings, furniture, jewelry and everyday objects.
The church of Saint Joan Of Arc interior in Nice, France has art deco architecture, which was built in the 1920s. With a dome surrounded by three smaller domes

9/1/22
Today I only just found that on Instagram you can post reels from live photos on your iPhone gallery. Unfortunately the submission deadline is soon and I would've had a lot more content for my LemonsOnDogs account.
10/1/22
I took an image from Logo Designer (2017) for a close flag example outside the coliseum to put my new flags out.
I also made another reel of live photos of dogs sniffing the lemon and got 65 likes in 4 hours and reached 3,000 accounts.
21/2/22
I started coming up with ideas for my logo
I started with a skull I drew in photoshop
But I fell this design may not be appropriate for the brand identity I want. I think a bee would be more friendly and sweet which will fit in with the rest of the work I have produced.
8/3/22
I designed a background for my online portfolio. I wanted to create something simple that wont cluttter the screen.
I drew the spirals and shapes in photoshop and duplicated it and flipped it to mirror the other side of the screen. Creating a nice homemade doodle feel. Making my portfolio more personal than using some image online.
26/4/22
I created the background for my invoice, PowerPoint template and business card within photoshop using textures and adjusting setting.
30/4/22
I drove me and my partner to London to pick up some turntables, while we were there we took a peak around Kew Gardens with my new camera (canon m50)
Later that week I received a charge for driving through a pedestrian zone.
2/5/22
I looked at audio for my showreel to determine how I will cut and transition my assets
I first looked on beatsuite.com at royalty free background music. Then I went onto taketones.com and found the track I think would be suitable for my showreel. I used the track Aerial by Adam Gray which includes a free license.
3/5/22
I created a QR code for my portfolio to go on the business cards and updated my logo by turning down the opacity of the shadow on the wings of the bee. I used a free QR code generator online.
I later removed the scan me and retyped it in the same font as the rest of my business card.
4/5/22
Seeing as my degree project is almost finished I was able to take scenes from it for my showreel. I added the audio and edited footage to speed them up to cut to the beat. The track is liquid drum and bass which allows me to make quick cuts to show a lot of my work.
I watched a liquid moiton graphic tutorial on youtube (2019)
liquid motion by SonduckFilm (2019) on Youtube
I think may use this in the showreel as a transition but i shall see how this fits in with the rest.
5/5/22
I realised I did not include a bleed in my designs so i got rulers up on photoshop before i imported it into illustrator.
6/5/22
With my business card background it is quite hard to read the font sometimes so I messed around with the effects
I exported my logo 40 x 40 cm
business card 1004 x 650 pxl
I used the font lucida fax in the letterhead, business card and invoice template
I looked on handshake and linked in at types of jobs to update the job hunting strategy. As i am still unsure of what position i want to pursue in the future yet, I think an internship would be good for me. to figure where i want to develop my skills. Therefore I haven't filled in my job hunting strategy too much as I do not want to apply to any positions yet.
This made it hard for me to specify my showreel to a set of skills because I've dabbled within many areas of digital media design, meaning that my work is quite varied.
I looked at a variety of jobs from creative promo producer for MTV to 2D animation
I learnt what hybrid working is : working from home and in workplace
8/5/22
I got free adobe icons from flaticon.com (n.d.) for my showreel to show what programs I am confident with and i wanted to create a check list so i took a pencil from freeiconspng.com (n.d.) and a tick from freeiconspng.com (n.d.) where I used a mask layer to make the pencil look like it is ticking the icons.
I watched a tutorial below
[3] title motion graphics on After Effects by Dope Motion (n.d.)
I edit the speed of the scale using the graph within after effects to make a smooth transition
using posterizetime(int); value; slows time by locking layers to a frame rate. this creates a stop motion effect
I used the wiggle effect within after effects for the stop motion effect
using motion blur and wiggle(100,500); i made the wings flap on the bee for the end scene of my showreel
scenes from the dolly shepherd project are a different size due to it being formatted to fit a shoebox when projected. I stretched the intro countdown scene but I couldn't to the gun shooting scene as characters would look warped.
The life in a flowerpot was exported for html viewing so I had to increase the scale to fit on the scene of my showreel, which explains the scroll bar at the side.
I turned down the audio levels of the track to -11db as the track was quite loud and then exported my showreel
I updated my website and i feel everything is almost ready to hand in, so I am awaiting a zoom call with Dean to double check everything is in the correct format to submit.
10/5/22
After handing my cv into the universities CV checker '360'. My design CV would fail with 77% so I created a blank version for it to recognize that I have completed it. I had a cv and coverletter ready from before but i just had to tweak it in areas to update it and make it relevant to a position.
I aimed my cv and cover letter at a warner brothers position advertised on handshake, which I slightly mentioned in the job hunting strategy. However I will not be applying for the role at this time.
I made the social icons bigger on the phone version of my portfolio for ease of use. And I removed the icons that were not in use such as Facebook and Pinterest as I do not have an account.
Overall, I think this module has been interesting and useful for the future. I am quite happy with how my showreel has come out and I hope it showcases what I can do.

27/10/21 My brother asked me to help make an ad for his online music lessons. I had to sync up videos with mastered tracks, to move the video on eframe backwards you hold alt and use the left arrow key. I used level keyframes to make the audio fade in and out. 28/10/21 I changed the font by going window>essential graphics Then I blured the videos slightly so the text was more readable and that people cant full see how the tracks are made as they will have to pay for the lessons to see.
18/2/22 I have been uploading my work to an online portfolio on wix 20.2.22 I looked on handshake for jobs there was a marketing associate job for malibu nightlife, a unisoft narrative design job https://jobs.smartrecruiters.com/Ubisoft2/743999796474737-graduate-narrative-designer-your-career-starts-here-473- I made minor chnages to my game terrowin such as errors where a house was on the top layer of the health UI. Then i re-exported my game then uploaded it to the google drive so it can be accessed on my portfolio.
